Break On Through To The Other Side

Finally (for now) one I did of Jim Morrison from The Doors - I think I underestimated how wide his jaw was but hopefully it looks decent / recognisable anyway...

Ground Control To Major Tom...

Here is a picture (again I did the other month) of a young David Bowie from the Space Oddity period (1969). Pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I Danced Myself Right Out The Womb

My printer broke (well actually the cable broke but being an idiot I went ahead and bought a fancy new printer before checking that) which means I've only just been able to scan these pictures I did a while ago.

First up is of Marc Bolan - unfortunately all my pencils were blunt and nobody had a sharpener which is why the shading / outline is pretty strong (luckily he's meant to be wearing eyeliner!)

Imagine All The People

Last one perhaps for a while since I have sadly reached the end of my notepad - This is John Lennon.

Also just a side note if you're not already aware I am now doing a radio show on forge radio Saturday night where I am going through all of British music from 1963 to the end of the 20th century - if that sounds like something you're interested in you can give it a listen on my mixcloud and remember to spread the word not the butter.

The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads

So is it the prospect of having to revise for my exam or a genuine surge of enthusiasm that has lead me to update my website again? Probably the first but no matter, here is a picture I did a while ago of Jerry Harrison from Talking Heads.

The Boy In The Bright Blue Jeans Jumped Up On The Stage

A while ago I attempted a pop art style painting of David Bowie ala Ziggy Stardust and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I stared off by drawing the main features and outline in black felt-tip and copying it to fit the canvas as a guide.

End Product:

Paint A Vulgar Picture

So here is a picture of Morrissey.

I underestimated the size of his chin slightly. Bloody hell does Morrissey have a big chin.

Where's Truth and Beauty?

Although now my notepad seems full of David Byrne, I have amassed lots of pictures of his Sheffielder doppelganger - Russell Senior (from Pulp). These are all quite old sketches so the technique isn't as refined as what I do now

Russell from '96 - It is worth noting that the interview in question (Shortlist 2012) mis-labelled Russell as Mark which makes the date also questionable since Mark joined in '95 and he's not in the photo

Russell '85

Russell '86 - This was the first drawing I did when I started drawing again

This is from 'The Day That Never Happened' gig in '88. If you'll remember (optimistic) I drew a coloured version of this as well

David Bowie Is Watching You

This is my first painting on canvas - and my first painting in about 3 years. My aim was to try and do a pop-art (ish) painting of David Bowie (Aladdin sane)'s eye. The original plan was to do two canvases with each eye (the constricted and dilated one so although it contains little of his face it could still be easily recognisable as Bowie. Not too sure if I will follow that through though)

Seen and Not Seen

Yet another picture of David Byrne

Yes, my subjects are a bit predictable

Based on :

Oh look it's me..

Looking a bit of a shady character (in that I think I overdid the shading).

When I started drawing it was light outside, but I didn't notice that it was getting progressively darker. When I realised, turned on the light and looked at my drawing my self-portrait self looked black. Not a lie. This is after lots of rubbing out and it's still pretty shaded.

Morale: Always turn the light on before you start to draw (I'm ashamed to say that it is not the first time I have made the mistake...)

I've Been Walking, Talking, Believing...

Two Pictures of David Byrne

This one is more a case of 'Floating Heads' than 'Talking Heads'...

I am not Jesus, though I have the same initials

Of Jarvis Cocker

You'll notice all of my drawings are of musicians

We Can Be Heroes

DAVID BOWIE - HEROES

I have decided to start posting some drawings as well as graphic stuff A) because I put time and effort into doing them and B) to prove to my Dad (who is probably the only one reading this anyway) that I draw lots of things not just Russell Senior!

So here is a drawing of David Bowie (just for you Dad)

On Top Of The World - Birthday Card

Two in one day, aren't you lucky...

Again, a birthday card full of smiles, rainbows and rodents. I am mostly just posting brithday stuff now since it would make absolutely no sense to post something christmas-y .

Enjoy!

PS. Hazzah for 100 page views (though I reckon half of them are by me)

Piano Birthday Card

Made this for my grandad's birthday as he is a music lover.

Russell Senior Drawing

Not a graphic but I drew this,

It's Russell Senior (violinist) from Pulp. I drew it on tracing paper to be able to make several layers.

The first is Russell based on this picture of him from the Day That Never Happened in '88 (The shirt was just too damn groovy for me to draw) but rotated slightly

The second is a picture of plastic bags filled with dyed water like in the They Suffocate At Night video. A bit earlier on, but it is more what I associate with Russell.

The Third is just the Lyrics to Countdown - Again Separations is very Russell.

Fish Birthday Card

Making up for lost time,

Here is another one. If you're anything like me then you will forget people's birthdays all the time so I made this card. You know that you forgot about them, and they know that you forgot about them - there's really no point hiding the fact.

Like I said, if anything I post catches your fancy then feel free to use it for yourself (you can contact me if you need a bigger version of something).

Enjoy!

Julian Opie-style pictures

Hello,

So first thing to post is a picture of me and my brother in the style of Julian Opie done for my Dad's birthday.

My Auntie liked so I made one for her and her family:
